The research
Three problems. What the research found. What we did.
-
Problem 01
Soaked by the fourth guest.
One thin towel can’t keep up.
The research
780 g / m²
GSM is grams of cotton per square meter. A thin towel has less cotton to hold water, so it’s soaked after a few guests.
Singh & Behera, Indian Journal of Fibre & Textile Research 2015
The MIORA fix
780 GSM, 6 hand towels.
Dense cotton dries hands in one pass. A fresh one per guest.
6 hand towels
-
Problem 02
Smells by day two.
Reused damp towels grow bacteria.
The research
87%
Damp towels grow odor bacteria: one, Moraxella osloensis, was in 87% of bad-smelling laundry samples. Polyester also held odor more than cotton, even after washing.
Kubota et al., Applied & Environmental Microbiology 2012; Van Herreweghen et al., Microorganisms 2020; Callewaert et al., Applied & Environmental Microbiology 2014; McQueen et al., IJCST 2014 (clothing studies)
The MIORA fix
Enough to rotate.
One out, one drying, one in the wash. Always a dry towel.
18 towels

Problem 03
Slick with softener.
Softener makes towels absorb less.
The research
Less absorbent
Liquid fabric softener coats cotton fibers and makes towels absorb less water.
Igarashi & Nakamura, Journal of Oleo Science 2021
The MIORA fix
Zero softeners.
Water-washed only, so they actually dry.
Water-washed only
