Face towels for your routine
Your towel touches your clean skin. Here’s what the research says is on it.
Three things on most towels, the studies behind each, and why none of them are on ours.
No formaldehyde finish · No disperse dyes · No softeners
The research
Three problems. What the research found. What we did.
-
Problem 01
Chemical finishes.
Wrinkle-free resin finishes are linked to skin allergies.
The research
Resin finishes
Dermatologists link formaldehyde resin finishes, used to make fabric wrinkle-free, to textile skin allergy.
U.S. GAO, Formaldehyde in Textiles (GAO-10-875, 2010); DermNet, Formaldehyde allergy
The MIORA fix
No formaldehyde finish.
The resin finish linked to skin allergy isn’t on ours.
Finish: none

Problem 02
Synthetic dyes.
Disperse dyes are the #1 dye trigger in fabric.
The research
#1 dye trigger
Disperse dyes, used to color polyester, are the most common cause of textile dye allergy. The EU restricts AZO dyes that release harmful amines in anything worn against skin.
Malinauskiene et al., Contact Dermatitis 2013; Nijman et al., Contact Dermatitis 2023; EU REACH Regulation, Annex XVII, Entry 43
The MIORA fix
No disperse dyes.
The #1 fabric dye trigger is used on synthetics. Ours is 100% cotton.
Disperse dyes: none

Problem 03
Softener film, damp towels.
Most face towels are coated, and still damp from yesterday.
The research
Coated + damp
Liquid softener coats cotton fibers. And a towel that stays damp gives bacteria time to grow before it touches your face again.
Igarashi & Nakamura, Journal of Oleo Science 2021; Kubota et al., Applied & Environmental Microbiology 2012; Van Herreweghen et al., Microorganisms 2020
The MIORA fix
Zero softeners. 4 face towels.
A dry, uncoated towel on clean skin every night.
4 face towels
