What makes MIORA towels different from other premium towels?
Most towels — even ones marketed as 'cotton' — contain polyester blends or synthetic coatings that shed microplastic fibers every time you wash them. MIORA towels are 100% Aegean-grown long-staple Turkish cotton. No polyester. No synthetic coatings. No microplastic shedding. That's it.
Why don't you use any polyester?
Polyester is plastic. A single wash of polyester textiles can release over 700,000 microplastic fibers into the water supply (Napper & Thompson, 2016). These fibers don't biodegrade — they accumulate in oceans, marine life, and eventually in our own bodies. We use 100% cotton because cotton fibers biodegrade naturally. There's no reason to put plastic in a towel.
What is microplastic shedding and why should I care?
Every time you wash a towel that contains polyester or other synthetic fibers, it releases microscopic plastic particles into the water. These microplastics pass through most water treatment plants, enter rivers and oceans, and accumulate in the food chain. Research from the IUCN estimates that 35% of ocean microplastics come from washing synthetic textiles. Switching to 100% natural fiber towels is one of the simplest ways to reduce your household's microplastic output.
How should I care for my MIORA towels?
Machine wash warm with like colors. Use a mild detergent — skip the fabric softener, which coats fibers and reduces absorbency. Tumble dry on low or hang to dry. Our towels are pre-washed to minimize shrinkage. They'll get softer with every wash cycle.
What is your shipping and return policy?
We offer free standard shipping on all US orders over $75. Standard delivery is 5-7 business days. If you're not satisfied, return unused towels within 30 days for a full refund. We stand behind the quality — if a towel doesn't hold up, reach out to us.
What does OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification mean?
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is an independent certification that tests textiles for over 350 harmful substances — including pesticides, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and regulated chemicals. Every MIORA towel is tested and certified, meaning the cotton that touches your skin has been verified free of harmful residues at every stage of production.
What does GSM mean and why does it matter?
GSM stands for grams per square meter — it measures towel density. Higher GSM means a thicker, more absorbent towel. Our face towels are 550 GSM (soft and lightweight), hand towels are 600 GSM (dense and durable), and body towels are 650 GSM (heavyweight luxury). For reference, most hotel towels are 400-500 GSM. More density means more cotton per square inch, which means better drying performance.
Where is your cotton sourced?
All MIORA towels use Aegean-grown long-staple Turkish cotton. The Aegean region produces some of the world's finest cotton due to its climate and soil conditions. Long-staple fibers are naturally stronger, smoother, and more absorbent than short-staple cotton — they're also what makes our towels get softer over time instead of breaking down.
Are your towels really plastic-free?
Yes. 100% Turkish cotton, zero polyester, zero nylon, zero acrylic, zero synthetic coatings. We don't use any synthetic materials in the fiber, the weave, or the finishing process. What you're drying off with is cotton and nothing else.
Do cotton towels perform as well as polyester blends?
Better. Pure long-staple cotton is more absorbent than polyester blends, dries faster than you'd expect at this GSM thanks to our loop construction, and actually improves with use. Polyester is added to towels because it's cheap, not because it's better. It reduces absorbency, creates a slick feel, and sheds plastic. Cotton does the job a towel is supposed to do.
